Each candle from J.J.L .Candle Co is hand-poured and made with natural coconut soy wax and phthalate-free fragrances. But what sets them apart is the carefully chosen names and scents that honor black culture and history. For example, the “We Gon’ Be Alright” candle is inspired by the tenacity and strength of African Americans to endure everything that we have, especially during these past 3 years, with notes of black currant and absinthe. The “Real Love” candle is nod to the infamous Mary J. Blige’s biggest hit from her What’s the 411 album with the scent of red rose.
But the candles are more than just a nod to black culture—they’re also a celebration of black culture. Each candle comes with a card that highlights a notable achievement or moment in black history, such as the first black woman to receive a Ph.D in physics or the first black woman to be elected to Congress. BY incorporating these moments of triumph into her business, the founder hopes to inspire others to celebrate black excellence in their own lives.
